Hit

Formal Definition

A new patient admission assigned to your team, especially overnight.

How It's Used on the Ward

"We got 6 hits last night" means 6 new admissions. "I'm getting hit" means admissions keep coming.

Example

"Post-call resident: "Rough night. We got 8 hits. I haven't sat down since 7pm.""

Clinical Context

Call nights are measured by how many hits you get. Fewer hits = easier night. Used universally across programs.
