Routine, often menial tasks on the wards: chasing labs, calling consults, placing orders, faxing records.
How It's Used on the Ward
"Can you handle the scut on our new admits?" means doing the administrative/logistical work.
Example
"Intern: "I've got a ton of scut to finish before signout - three consult calls, five discharge summaries, and a family meeting.""
